"Denmark off the beaten track" Skarø by cachaseiro

Skarø is a tiny little island in southern Denmark where you have less than 50 people living there permanently.
It's a very idyllic little place that is still like Denmark was a few decades ago in many ways.
I have relatives living there so i go to visit frequently.
It´s an extremely calm little place where you can experience Denmark with small farm houses, see various animals grasing on the fields and go down the little grocery store and buy a beer and sit on the stairs and drink it with the locals.
Every year in july they have a festival with a few live bands and other entertainment.
It's a very family orientated festival and it's an ideal way to spend a summer weekend for people with small kids.
As you can see i'm quite happy there too, even if it was rainy and muddy when this photo was taken.
15 years ago Skarø was close to closing down as a soceity because the young people were leaving the island and they almost only had retired people left there.
At one point the number of inhabitants was down to just 18 (it´s 34 as i am writing now).
But recent years has seen a few young and a few very active people moving to Skarø and these days it´s a suprisingly vibrant little island where they have a music festival, a production of ice cream, a couple of cafes and it is a very livable little island in my opinion.
- Pros:Denmark when Denmark is really charming.
- Cons:Some people might find it very small.
- In a nutshell:One of my favorite holiday spots.
