ankara is the capitol of turkey and very much a representative for modern turkish state founded by ataturk. ankara was a tiny little town untill the turkish state was founded in 1923, but ataturk decided to move the capital from istanbul to ankara and city planners created a new giant city in central anatolia. the fact that city planners has played a big role in creting ankara means that it is in many ways a very pleasant city to live in with lot's of parks and space to breathe.
it's not a city with lot's of tourist attractions, but it's worth a couple of days and it gives you a good impression of the modern turkish state. |

junecorlett Tue May 19, 2009 09:22 UTC Hello Claus, nice tips here for Ankara, good sunset too. | haiamisa Tue Apr 22, 2008 14:32 UTC This hotel looks good as we plan to spend one night in Ankara and only need a place to sleep . I phoned twice to make a reservation but always someone who doesn't speak english answered the call. Well, I'll try again as there is still plenty of time. | globetrott Fri Nov 2, 2007 21:14 UTC an interesting page, thanks for sharing, Claus ! | mtncorg Mon Oct 29, 2007 19:59 UTC Interesting start - looking at visiting a friend here next Spring!
