And the economic center of North East Brazil.

I have spend almost a year in Recife doing a little work and a lot of partying with my good freinds.
If you are tired of Rio but still wants a big city with a lively beach, then Recife is not a bad place to go.
It can seem like just another big ugly city at first, but it really has a great cultural scene and it´s a very vibrant city.

Recife has a nice beach suburb.

Boa viagem is the place to stay in Recife.
It has a very nice beach front and even if it´s not very suitable for swimming (due to undercurrents and sharks) it´s a very cool place to hang out as it has a great social scene.
It´s kinda like Ipanema or Copacabana in rio, but just a little more laid back.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:It's full of brazilians.
  • Cons:A few ugly sex tourists.
  • In a nutshell:A good place to start your brazilian journey

"Ilha do amor", that sounds really very romantic ! I had been in Recife 20 years ago, it was a regular stop on our Southamerica-cruises !

Now I have an idea where this place is! Did you have a piece of beach only to yourself as they claim in guidebooks? Reza
