  • Tip Rating:
  • WATER! If you plan on hiking into the canyon, bring LOTS AND LOTS of water. You could seriously get very sick or die without it... it's a desert within the canyon, and if it's hot enough, there'll be rangers not letting you onto the trail if you don't have enough water. There are a couple places on the Bright Angel Trail to fill up with water, which is nice. Anyway, I'm not sure on the statistics, but I think it's at least a gallon per person per day... check www.nps.gov for more info at the Grand Canyon page.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Wildlife ... there are rattlesnakes and scorpions here. WATCH OUT WHERE YOU PUT YOUR HAND! They're not that big, the scorpions, so you have to be careful... just slightly bigger than a spider, some of them. Also, there are cacti here, so be careful with that too.

Use Common Sense: Don't try to make it to the...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Don't try to make it to the bottom of the canyon (the river) and back in one day! I know it can be done, but it's gotta be really grueling. I was hurting after making it only down about 2/3 of the way. Going farther down would have been painful coming back up. ;) Yeah, remember, it takes about 1/3 of the total time to go down in the canyon and the other 2/3 to come back up... i.e., for 2 hours down, it'll take 4 hours back for 6 hours total. Remember to rest if you get winded or tired, there's no sense in killing yourself. On the other hand, it'd be very expensive to airlift you out! So know your own abilities before you go down, or decide to go down further! I know it's tough, I've been there.

El Tovar Hotel is a category under Grand Canyon National Park - Hotels & Accommodations and there aren't very many tips in that location.

thanks for the tips, I'll definitely spend the night in the canyon before hiking back up the next day. Great photos!
