Flagstaff is sort of an oasis in the middle of a large desert, known as Arizona! ;) No, really, Flagstaff is green and the temperature is very comfortable in the summer... I remember it being in the 70's. There's skiing at the nearby Arizona Snowbowl on Humphreys Peak, Arizona's highest point at 12,633 ft., a good rise from the level of Flagstaff at 6910 ft. Anyway, this is a great jumping-off point for some other nearby attractions. Less then two hours to the north, of course, is the Grand Canyon! And within an hour of here are the meteor crater, Wupatki National Monument, Sunset Crater NM, Walnut Canyon NM, and Sedona! There are tons of things to do here!

Also, Flagstaff is one of the few cities in Arizona through which the historic Route 66 passes. You can find memoribilia at some of the stores around town. Rt 66 is one of the main streets through town as well.

Lastly, Flagstaff is home to Northern Arizona University, which has a large observatory and does a lot of research in the field of astrophysics.
