Ketchikan is a small port city, the southernmost of Alaska, but still its fourth largest city! :) It's built on the side of hills around the island, so in many places it is necessary to take a series of stairs (which are their form of roads and sidewalks in many places) to get to a particular residence or business. The waterfront is a great place to see sea-planes taking off and landing, as Ketchikan has more of these than any other place. And don't forget wildlife again... bald eagles everywhere, and even whale pods going by! Also, there's a decent American Indian population here, which can also be seen in the totem poles throughout the city. I'll explain more in my must-sees. Did I mention that Ketchikan is also the Salmon Capital of the World??

Oh, and... ALASKA MARINE HIGHWAY, ALASKA MARINE HIGHWAY, ALASKA MARINE HIGHWAY!!! Instead of being on a cruise ship, do this!
