Wangfujing Street: Chinese Chopsticks
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: Yunhong Chopstick Shop

There are a lot of varieties of chopsticks, made from different kind of material and of different colors.

I bought chopsticks for a friend who was getting married, I got her a pair that looked like bambou ( the wood was made to look like a bambou, there is nothing painted on them). I thought they were very elegant. Moreover, it came with chopsticks holder and a nice box.

You can also buy the whole set (for 10 people). If you don't intend to spend so much, there are very simple looking chopsticks for 18 RMB (10 pairs).

What To Pay: Prices vary following the style and wood of the chopsticks. You can get 2 pairs of nice chopsticks for 70 RMB. Simple ones (the more practical ones) cost around 20 RMB for 10 pairs.

All along Xinjiekou Street: Shopping street for young people
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: All along Xinjiekou Street

Xinjiekou Street is pretty long and on both sides, there are tons of little streets selling trendy things for young people : clothes for both sexes, CDs, bags, shoes...

What To Buy: There is nothing Beijing special, this is where a lot of young locals go for shopping. The quality isn't always great but for the price you pay, I think it's worth it.

What To Pay: You would have to bargain in every shop (except for CDs when prices are often fixed) and for everything.

  • Name of Shop: Panjiayuan Market

Panjiayuan is known as a flea market. Part of this market is open everyday and the other part will only open on Saturday and Sunday.

What To Buy: There are a lot of second hand books as well as antiques (fake and real). Local and ethnic art crafts can be found. This is quite entertaining as the market is pretty large.
Of course, do not forget to bargain...
