Lotus: Lotus Cafe/Bar
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Lotus

This was the first bar in Houhai area that I went to and this is probably why I like it best. Actually in all the area, along the lake, there are a lot of cafe/bars that have opened in the last 2 years I've been told.
Lotus isn't easy to find, especially at night but you would recognize it by its round window on the 2nd floor. It's accross a thai restaurant, also named Lotus, which has the same owner.

The bar is decorated in a very cosy way. I just had the impression I was going into a friend's place and not a cafe/bar.

This cafe/bar is opened all day and it's really nice on the afternoon. We can go out on the small terrace and have an excellent banana milkshake (I strongly recommand it if they don't have, try the apple milkshake instead)!

    Loup Chante: Loup Chante

  • Nightlife Spot: Loup Chante

This is a tiny cafe/bar located in Haidian, the university district. It's pretty international as a lot of students get together there.

Twice a week (Wed, Sun) there is a live jazz band and the ambience is really cool. There's also a DJ on Friday and a latin music night on Sat.

This cafe/bar is also opened during the day, for people who want to have a coffee and read there.

    Sanlitun Bar Street: Bar Street
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: All along the Bar Street

I guess everyone has heard about this Bar Street (Jiuba Jie) which real name is Sanlitun. It's where we can find foreign people in Beijing. All along the street, we would find at least a dozen of bars.

When the weather is warm enough, we can sit outside. Drinks are very expensive for China I think, a Heineken cost me 25 RMB.

I don't quite like it as it doesn't have that much ambience anymore. It's more like people watching for me.
