I like to go camping at Oka because it is very close to Montreal. It takes less than 45 minutes to get there. On site you have restaurants, a convenience store, a laundry room and a community room.
There is a nice dining room and a Terrace that faces the lake. You can have a nice bevy and watch the world float by. As well, there is a boutique that sells all sorts of stuff. (I did not have a bottle opener, and I bought a very fancy one there). You can rent all sorts of equipment (Canoes, Cross country skis, Kayaks, Umbrellas, Pedal boats, Windsurfers, Strollers, Bikes...)
You can camp all year long at Oka. In the winter, only one area is available for camping.
There is a beach at Oka (Yes, I know the water is dirty! My bellybutton piercing got REALLY infected!) It gets poluted by the end of the summer, and it is posted the level of water clarity. It has been getting better and better as the years go by.
If you are brave enough, there is even a nudist section to the beach. When facing the water, walk ALL the way to the left. There are gawkers, yes. But make a rude comment and they will leave.
- Pros:Close to Montreal, popular beach, great walking trails, great bike trails, nudist beach (if that floats your boat), great staff, clean air
- Cons:Beach area by restaurant too busy, full of teeny boppers showing off, after 14pm on beach go closer to Nudist section to get some peace

Poison ivy and dirty water - sounds like the beginnings of a fun vacation! ;) Just kidding. I've driven past Oka on my way down from Montreal to Howick back in the winter. Very different than in the summer!
j'imagine l'hiver terrible !
