Picture this. A bunch of VTers at the movies, watching a movie called "BLACK WATER". Now this is sort of an Australian Crocodile version of JAWS. The entire movie was set in a billabong with mangroves, four people went fishing in a tinnie - an aluminium lightweight boat. Predictably a huge croc overturned the boat and picked them off one by one, while they sought refuge in a tree (mangrove). As each person tried to retrieve the boat to escape, the croc got them. Finally there was one person left who did actually get out alive. I know I was sitting there with my eyes closed and fingers in my ears, and so was the person sitting next to me ... not sure about the others.
4 went in - 1 came out. Apply that formula to our group of 12, 12 will go in and 3 will come out ..... Bring it on!!
Now this movie did nothing to enhance our confidence to venture into the Crocodile Kingdom of the world! So with this in mind, try to appreciate the thoughts being fought off in the minds of the people in this photo, of people in a tinnie, so close to a large croc, capable of puncturing and sinking it.
I might add as well, that before we were able to set out in these craft, this day, our guides had to bail out a lot of water. They were sure a croc had jumped onto the boat and swamped it, as well as leaving teeth marks on the side.
