Wanaka has to be one of the most beautiful places on this earth. Look at this ! Snowcapped mountains, a gorgeous lake with a jagged edge and countless bays to explore. A lovely little town on the edge of the lake, idyllically situated. This IS paradise for sure!!
Every two years, at Easter, Wanaka hosts the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow at it's airport. This is a spectacular and very historic show, not to be missed if you are in the area at that time. See my travelogues here for more photos and information.
The scenery around Wanaka is always stunning. I love to see the mountain tops with a cap of snow.
- Pros:Stunning scenery, great nearby skifield, away from ratrace.
- Cons:Weather can be extreme

I thoroughly enjoyed your Spitfire page. You may know that I am also an antique airplane enthusiast. After seeing this page, I will (eventually) add my own with photos of my crashes and my friend's Mustang, and some air races stuff. Pretty cool Pam. Kudos....d:o)

Brings back memories. I saw some of Warbirds when the Russian planes were there and went on a flight in a stunt plane. Sad about the death.
WOW. How I would love to be there this weekend. I've flown in many Lincolns and that Merlin X4 sound is Spine-tingling; even one Mustang or Spitty would do it !. Go Wanaka.

I loved your Spitfire photographs, what beautiful aircraft they are. The noise of the Merlin send shivers down my spine, especially hearing a 4 engined Lancaster bomber. I think i need to visit Wanaka Peter
