No visit to France is complete without going to Chamonix, one of France's premiere tourist and skiing destinations. It is situated in a valley and there is access to ski fields but in particular to the area surrounding Mont Blanc. This photo shows the view from atop Aguille du Midi looking down on the restaurant building and further on down to the town below. |  | Don't miss going up in the cable car. Ride the cable car up the Aguille du Midi and at the top there is a restaurant and viewing platforms. Here I am at the top platform with Mont Blanc summit in the background. It is possible then to ride another cable car across the mountain tops to Italy, but the day we were there the wind was too high and we couldn't do that. |
| | The cable car is large. There is a stop half way up and you can get off and walk around the mountain a bit. At the top you don't get onto the mountain as such, you are on a structure. |
