Awaroa Lodge - Abel Tasman National Park

Awaroa Lodge

Awaroa Lodge.: No Road Access and very Remote.

No road access means this is very special. You can either walk in the long trek, or come by water taxi.
The café/restaurant is very modern, and enjoyable. The accommodation is chalet nestled in the busy, not as comfortable as the price may indicate, however you are paying a lot for the remoteness and accessibility of food etc. A truly great experience and a lot of walking and kayaking to do in this area.
Awaroa Lodge is closed for renovations over winter from 1st May to 25th September 2010.

Unique Qualities: Walking and kayaking, which the lodge staff can organise. It is advisable to book the kayaking before you arrive as it is very popular. Book independantly or with the lodge.

Address: P.O. Box 163, Takaka 7172, New Zealand. (postal)

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Awaroa Lodge

DOC huts can have lovely locations! - Abel Tasman National Park

DOC huts can have lovely locations!

DOC Huts.: Beautiful setting.

If you walk the Abel Tasman Coast Track independently, you must book to stay in the huts provided by the Department of Conservation. This one at Awaroa Bay is idyllically situated right on the beach. When the tide is in the water comes right up to the grass!!

Unique Qualities: Much cheaper than the Lodge, but must be booked.

Comparison: least expensive

Directions: Awaroa Inlet.
