Sail in a real America's Cup racing boat. Adults $125 Children $110 2 hr trip, sailing daily, no experience needed. This is great if you really want to experience sailing a racing boat. There are no comforts, no comfortable lounge to sit in. So you are very exposed to the weather, which can be rather volatile down here in the South Pacific. So be sure this is what you want to do before you do it. All that aside, and with your sealegs and passion for sailing, you can have a very envigorating sail on a very fast boat. Have fun!!

Things To Do: Wintergarden and Fernz Fernery

The Wintergarden glass houses and the Fernz Fernery are located in the city park known as Auckland Domain. Situated to the East of the city centre towards a suburb of Auckland City called Parnell. It's a short taxi ride from most of the downtown hotels and a really pleasant "Thing to Do", and the entrance is FREE.
Summer Hours: 9:00am - 5.30pm and to 7.30pm Sundays. Winter Hours: 9:00am - 4.30pm daily (1 April - 31 October).
There are two glasshouses, one Temperate and one Tropical, both with glorious examples of fauna. Naturally the tropical house displays the most colourful blooms, often not seen in subTropical New Zealand. The waterlily pond central to the Tropical house, is a real feature that often attracts photographers.
Walking around this area, along with the lovely outdoor fernery, is so pleasant and envigorating. But it's also quite 'do-able' for those of us who are not so mobile. A real oasis in the midcity, and together with neighbouring Auckland War Memorial Museum a lovely way to spend the afternoon or morning. You get glorious views of the city, Waitemata Harbour and Rangitoto Island from the steps of the Museum, just up the hill from the Wintergarden.

norain Tue Mar 18, 2008 02:59 UTC Nice page. Thanks for info. | Gillybob Wed Jan 2, 2008 09:40 UTC Of course! Silly me! Yes-deposit paid. Flights are booked. AND I'm planning on heading out your way in 2009-probably late January for 3 weeks. Hoping I can cover the main sights in that time-can't commit to more annual leave. Gillybob greetings | veronicaarg Mon Nov 19, 2007 17:26 UTC thanks a lot Pam for the suggestions and pics! I´m looking into moving to parnell and this has definitely encouraged me to do so :-) | yellowbell Thu Nov 15, 2007 04:19 UTC Thanks for the tips Pam. I might go there for my honeymoon, Jan. of next year. Free city circuit bus is interesting just like the free city circle tram of Melbourne. |
