Kawhia has history that goes Way Back!

That's Kawhia in the distance on that peninsular or more accurately described as a harbour headland.

The New Zealand Christmas Tree

The vivid red tones of the lovely blooms of the Pohutukawa Tree, are one of the stunning features of coastline New Zealand. Commonly referred to as the Christmas Tree, the Pohutukawa blooms around Nov/Dec and is mostly found by the sea.

Many of the pioneers settled coastal areas so as to have supplies shipped to them. Land travel was still very slow and difficult back then.
