Dangerous hole off the track. - Waihou

Dangerous hole off the track.

Keep to the track.

Please respect the private property and that this is an operational farm. Keep to the track. It is also advisable to refrain from venturing to the rivers edge as there are obstacles such as wet bogland and hazardous holes like the one in the photo which has water flowing underneath. Keeping to the track is the safest pathway to take.

Crossing an electric fence. - Waihou

Crossing an electric fence.

Electric and regular fences.

Electric fences are very common in rural New Zealand, so if you are unfamiliar with them, it helps to know what to expect. If by chance, you do touch one, you will feel a very strong jolt hit you, but it is not life-threatening nor dangerous. It just has a shock effect, and although I have touch many fences, I still am startled by the jolt.
Cross the fences where there is a style, and the electric wire, only one of the fence wires, will be adequately covered and protected and you won't get a shock. Hold the pole while crossing and you will maintain your balance well. Don't be afraid of the electric fence, just respect it.
