The West Coast of Auckland.

The Waitakere Ranges are a beautiful bushclad range of hills to the West of Auckland and near to the western coast. There are a lot of houses nestled in the bush, a lot of them have lovely views over the city, but they are far away and at one with nature.
Be sure to check out my travelogue where I am writing about the western beaches.
Waitakere's "Scenic Drive" is around 20 or 30 kilometers of road that winds through and along the range.It's well worth the drive and offers lovely bush and forest clad driving, with views of both Manukau Harbour and the Tasman Sea as well as the distant city. It stretches from Titirangi in the south to Swanson in the north, with roads branching off to the various beaches.
6 kms from Titirangi is a very well equipped Information Centre, worth stopping at.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Nestle in bush and be with nature, yet still commute to city.
Cons:Just a little bit too far to commute and i get sick on the windy roads!
In a nutshell:Beautiful bushclad hills between city and sea.
