    • The Sydney Bay beaches have shark cages built around the roped area for good reason! Only swim in designated areas if you choose to swim in Sydney Bay at all. (I didn't)

     This comment relates to SYDNEY, some 600 miles south of Brisbane. Brisbane itself has few beaches on the mainland, though lots of beautiful (and safe) beaches on nearby Stradbroke Island, and to the north (Sunshine Coast) and south (Gold Coast).
