This is my hometown. I live at Grünerløkka, wich is a pulsating part of the city. It's higly recomended for people that wants to get away from Karl Johan, away from the beaten track.
Yes Oslo is a very expensive city, but still it's worth coming here.
Surrounded by the fjord and the forested hills. Oslo is a small but vibrant capital. The history of Oslo dates back to the 10th century when a settlement was built at the end of the Oslo fjord. This settlement grew into the medieval city of Oslo, an important royal stronghold, ecclesiastical centre and commercial centre. Oslo is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia, and the only Scandinavian capital with an urban settlement dating back to the Viking Ages. Remains from this period can be seen in the Memorial park in "Gamle Oslo"
The centre of Oslo is compact, most hotels, meeting facilities, shopping areas, and entertainment are within walking distance. No matter where you are in the city it will take you only 15 minutes by bus, tram or subway to get to either the fjord or the forrest.
Norway is safe and stable, the crime rates are low. It's a clean city with clean water and fresh air. I think people in Oslo are friendly - I'm one of them ;), we welcome visitors. Most Norwegians speak English, so communication is easy.
There's always something going on, concerts, exhibits, festivals, happenings....
You won't regret coming to Oslo!
