Colombia - the starting place of my last long trip, before I decided to go back to college and take up a new study. If I had had to go alone, I would have chosen a different country... probably Argentina, and then moved northwards. However the trip was the idea of my infamous twin brother - i tried to reason with him, i begged, i bought him books on Argentina, i offered to pay for his flight (even if I could not really afford it) and, eventually I gave in. If i am stubborn, he's even more stubborn, a real tete-de-mule. He tried to reason back with me, he begged, he bought me books on Colombia, he offered to pay for my flight. The sad part is that he could easily afford it... so I ended up deciding to go, and put my fears aside, especially when he promised we would then go to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Luck was on our side: we found work for a few weeks on a ship in the Galapagos so that, by the end of the planned trip, we still had enough money left to go to Peru and hike the Inca Trail. But Colombia - with all its dangers and contradictions, holds a special place in my heart.
