Well, I don't suppose these are really 'Off the beaten path' as these are places that Tourists are generally directed to, but they are still great. The Blue Mountains are a must, Lane Cove National Park is great and also the Jenolan Caves. Although the caves are fascinating with 10 different cave systems to choose from the surrounding countryside and walks are equally great with fantastic views of Jenolan Lake from on high. The drive from Sydney to the caves is fascinating to see the countryside change, it really is spectacular. Another great little place is Leura which is a small town in the Blue Mountains, if you get to the Golf Course there you will see some incredible views from the putting greens. If you travel down the coast from Sydney, near Wollongong there is the Budderoo National Park, we went to the Minnamurra rainforest there and it was fantastic, got to see a Lyrebird, but take plenty of insect repellent! I shall put some more detail of this great place on my Wollongong page. We got lost one day when we missed a turn for Dee Why beach and ended up on the Pacific Highway, but hey no worries we found some great places, The Kuring-gai National Park, Woy-Woy, Umina and Pearl beaches and Gosford, where we had the best fish and chips I can ever remember! The place is called Monti's (thanks to Colin Bramso for the info). We were staying near to Parramatta which is quite nice with a good visitor centre, we got the RiverCat hydrofoil down the Parramatta River to Sydney harbour which was a great way to enter the City. Out of the beaches we visited we thought Palm beach and Whale beach were the best, not too crowded, great sand and water, these are North of Sydney, Manlys great too, but anyway I could go rambling on for ages!
