09/05 - The food is still reflects good quality and flavor. New item this year - stuffed peppers. Dinko spoiled me my first year with his marinated anchovies - though sadly he has not repeated the dish exactely but still serve tasty variations. My friend didn't warm up to the place or food - he thought everything was pickled (marinated I said) and the prust hanging from the rafters smelled a bit musty (I didn't smell anything). The wine once again had a certain yeast/bread like quality to it - very unique.

09/04 - Dinko is still serving up great food - the slovenia sausage was spicy and flavorful, a different spin on the marinated anchovies, locally produced goat cheese and honey. But the most remarkable was the house wines, especially the white - his wife's family has a vineyard on St. Klement. Don't forget to sign the world atlas.

09/03 - This restaurant only serves what I would call starters (almost tapas size portions). The care, attention and pride of their products is obvious - almost everything I had was superb. Marinated anchovies, Pag cheese, octopus salad (with chick peas mixed in adding a nice contrast of textures), dalmation ham (smooth and buttery), dalmation bacon ( a bit thicker and chewier), the house wine, figs stuffed with almonds and soaked in spirits, the orange and walnut liquors - excellent. The only thing that failed to win me over was the stuffed bread (almost like a stuffed foccia).

Situated about a block off the main square and near Hektorovica's unfinished house - this is one of the more upscale restaurants. The food quality is excellent. I did the chef's recommendations - hvar sampler plate of fish pate-octopus salad- marinated anchovies, fruta di mare risotto, fish fillet w/roasted vegetables. Ordered a bottle of white - Bodanjusa. For desert - a couple slices of fresh succulent watermelon. Try and get a table outside along the walkway - the lights swaying in the breeze, people passing by - makes for a wonderful setting. Finished with some homemade prosec - which was a deep ruby red. I had my last dinner here - lobster spaghetti (140 kn), other white fish (120 kn), grilled vegetable (25 kn) a 1/2 liter of house white (30 kn) - once again a beautiful peaceful setting - late at night I had the walkway to myself.

  • Restaurant Name: Golden Shell

09/06 - Ivo's Golden shell salad, cloud-like gnocci with walnut sauce and his lamb with Robinson sauce will keep bringing me back to Hvar. A great restaurant with superb quality food.

09/05 - Ivo is still serving great food - my friend and I started off with salads and then order whole grilled fish - scorpino and orada. A bottle of red plavic rounded out the meal. Will be back again next year.

09/04 - Started with dumplnigs lasagana - gnocci with a walnut sauce subtley flavored with dried herbs, really good. Rabbit in Hvar sauce with olives, a fresh salad with goat cheese ( I could eat one of these every day) and the house red - all wonderful. His spin on drunken figs was a nice finish to a wonderful meal. Ivo remembered me from my last visit - next time I'll leave the decisions to him.

09/03 -The owner is a member of Slow Food. Started off with dalmation ham and goat cheese in olive oil, for entree a steak stuffed with goat cheese and capers with a side order of swiss chard and potatoes - ordered a bottle of Zlatan Otok red. Everything was well prepared The owner is very personable. I realized half way back across the Atlantic that dumplings on the menu probably meant ravioli (doh!). Would have like to have gotten back here for another meal - next year.

Located directly across from the Golden Shell - the third floor is open to the sky. The food is well prepared - had fish pate with smoked salmon, octopus salad and spaghetti buzara - ordera bottle of white Zlatan Otok. I was a bit jet lagged but thought everything was quite good. Cool hip music played discreetly in the background.

Great view of the town and harbor - try a get a table during sunset. Ordered a plate of dalmation ham, locally made cheese and a liter of house white.
Decide to try the lamb which was okay - maybe a little over cooked. But the view is great. The lemon ice cream was a nice a finish.

The huge patio is under a canopy of grape vines with
clusters of grapes within arms reach.  The restaurant seems to cater more to large groups and families. Tried a hvar plate (sampling of ham, pag cheese, sardines and seafood salad) and carpet shells ( clams - not as plump as mussels but briny and plentiful. Stopped in a coupe nights to have drinks on the patio also - nice setting.

Recommended in Footprint. Had the house white, some dalamtion ham, spaghetti with lobster ( the tomatoes, capers, garlic, white wine - wonderful) and a
plate of fresh fried girice (little fish which could be eaten whole). The owner told me the best months in Hvar are May, June, September and October - July and August are too busy.

09/04 - Still the wonderful tranquil place I remember from last year. Tried the octopus salad - light and fresh, with corn, fresh olive oil and lemon. Some mellow jazz in the background - I have to stay here next year for a few days.

09/03 - The view from the patio looking out towards the small island, Scredo - the fresh caught fish - the tranquility - the house wine. If you're looking for a place to get away to on Hvar - try the south side of the island.

Favorite Dish: 09/04 - Tried the octopus salad, gnocci with gorgonzola, fresh grilled fish, zuchinni and potatoes and the house wine - all satisfying and delicious.

09/03 - The gnocci with gorgonzola - the frsh caught fish - the house wine.

Great restaurant tips - love the annual updates! We're heading for Hvar this summer - our first visit to the island MrL's grandmother left over 100 years ago. Looks like we're in for culinary treats as welas a walk in her footsteps. leyle

Luna! our favorite restaurant in Hvar. The fish soup and the grilled squid was excellent. It is a nice escape from the tourists packing the square and prominade.

Went to your HP before replying in CRO forum, and ended up in my favorite place on Earth. Every time I pass through that tunnel towards Zavala I feel like being born again.
