"There are Still Windmills in the Netherlands" IJsselmeer by Weissdorn
IJsselmeer Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 5 photos
Not the kind you would expect to find Hans Brinker standing in front of, but the Netherlands are still famous for them - and there are thousands of them everywhere - silently turning to generate electricity or to pump out the polders like they have for centuries.
In fact, if it wasn't for these famous symbols of what everyone thinks of "Typically Dutch", there wouldn't even be a Flevoland - the Netherland's newest province. Flevoland used to be completely under water - it used to be the bottom of the Zuidersee - until they drained it. Now all that remains of the Zuidersee is the IJsselmeer and the Makkermeer. The two bodies of water form the biggest lagoon in Europe. In some places it's so large that you can't even see the shore on the other side.
They say there are two kinds of Dutch People - the "Dry" Dutch who love to go camping and often own a trailer, and the "Wet" Dutch who love to go sailing.

Great pictures! So what type of Dutch am I? I love hiking, but not camping and I love the sea, but get seasick being on a ship.....! ;-)
Very nice tip. It was both out of the ordinary and I couldn't have asked for more information. Thank you.
Agree totally! Coming in via the water gives one an entirely new perspective on things whether a large body of water like here on the Isselmeer or a small canal or river. Those are skies Rembrandt dreamed of! Put her on the rails!
Great first photo!!Nice photo from windmills
nice pic of the "windmills"
