Butzbach is generally known for two kinds of forts. For the Germans, particularly the Hessians, the think of the high security prison that exists here for serious criminals. For foreigners, particularly Americans, they remember the military post that was here. But these were not the only fortresses that Butzbach once had.

What a pretty town! Hope to visit it one day.
Hi Celeste, we did a half-day-trip to Butzbach this weekend and it was really nice. I only had it "on the radar" because I stumbled over your excellent Butzbach page. Thanks!
Very interesting historical information and fine photos! I didn't know (or had forgotten) that Lotte Buff's family lived in Butzbach, since Goethe's novel takes place in Wetzlar. (I recently saw Massenet's fine Werther opera again in Frankfurt.)
thanks for the virtual tour of my mom's hometown, it was really nice to find out when the town was founded!

I read your historical account of Butzbach and enjoyed it very much. I was stationed there with the US Army in 67-69. I was looking for the history of the town and photographs. If I can find any of mine I will try to send them to you Thanks - rolite
