SURVIVAL TIPS

LIMA is noisy and in the midst...

it is like a big market in the streets
the center is mainly around the Plaza de Armas (Mayor) and the main street (full of shops and restaurants)
the rest of the city seems dead...

it is better to stay at Miraflores (beach, restaurant, quiet places) but the good way is to go directly to Arequipa or Cusco...

Visit Chinatown and the museums and walk on the Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor and around...then, after that, there is nothing to see !

Do not stay in LIMA more than one day.
Go to Miraflores, just near the beach.

There some good hotel in Miraflores and cheaper than in Lima..

There is a good market in Miraflores and good restaurant near the town center.

You can choose to stay near the beach if you want a peace place and if you want to avoid the noisy town center (noisy and busy nights) ...

You can take a bus or a plane to travel in Peru, but do not go to the BUS STATION alone !

LIMA to CUSCO or AREQUIPA = 20 - 36 hours, then you can go to Lake Titicaca and Bolivia , La Paz....

Take a coat, it is cold if you go by bus !

If you have time, you might do it in 2 days with a stop in Ayacucho.

LIMA AIRPORT
Lima's airport Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chavez is located about 30 minutes by taxi from the city center or from Miraflores. Allow an hour for this trip, though, as heavy traffic can sometimes be a problem.
If departing internationally, check-in 3 hours before departure. For domestic flights check in 2 hours before departure. This may seem excessively early but airlines have the habit of overbooking the flights so if you really have to be on the plane get there before the rush.
After checking-in you need to go and pay your departure taxes. For international flights the tax is $25. Domestic departure tax is S/12 (twelve nuevos soles) or US$4.
   
LIMA BUS STATION
There is no central bus station in Lima, each company has its own arrival and departure depot.

ATTENTION
Be particularly careful with your valuables at any of the bus stations since there are always thieves and bag snatchers looking out for an opportunity.
