"Weaverville - Gold Rush Era -- 1850's Revisted" Weaverville by GaryAlan
Weaverville Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 7 photos
Weaverville, population 3,500, is the county seat and largest "city" in mountainous Trinity County. It was named after John Weaver, one of the first gold miners to build a cabin in the area..
Many of the Gold Rush era buildings still survive. The court house, completed in 1857, is still in use today. Also, the oldest operating drug store in California, established in 1852, is still in operation. It's near the courthouse and next to the Weaverville Hotel, another old- timer.
If you have time, visit the Chamber of Commerce, pick up a "Walking Tour of Historic Weaverville" brochure --- take a time-capsule tour of some of the special interest sites. There's lots to see but you won't see any stop lights (traffic signal lights) or parking meters --- there aren't any -- not in Trinity County..
Weaverville early on a Sunday morning in June. Listen quietly ... can you hear .... faintly in the far distance ... that beat of a different drummer? -:)
- Pros:No parking meters. No traffic lights. A friendly, scenic mountain town with mostly mom and pop stores and shops.
- Cons:Sometimes --- especially on summer holidays --- it gets a bit crowded. Summer-time temperatures can get hot by afternoon, though it cools off quickly at night.
- In a nutshell:Weaverville is like going back in time .... it's genuine --- a generic "Northern Exposure" (Cicely) kind of place.

Great pictures! There's a lot of beauty in your back yard.
3,500 people and a few ghosts. Now that sounds like our kind of town!
Really nice pages! Funny you thought my page said "Old Helena!" You know, I do have a page on an old gold mining town, North Bloomfield - yes, I do need to add more photos!
Wow! This looks like a dreamy place to visit, or live! No traffic lights, smog, or the likes of such. Peaceful bliss. :-) ~Elaine~
