* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Saw this young male (a yearling) every day while camped at the lake. We got to be pretty good friends. In this photo he's foraging near snowmelt runoff -- which was where I got my drinking water at this campsite. *** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ----------- Photo - Trinity Alps Wilderness Backpacking Trip - June 1-6, 2005 -----------

| | Reflection in Mirror Lake ----- Camped at this remote, off-trail lake for three days. Had only birds and chipmunks for companions. It was late summer, but a few winter snowdrifts remained. | | That's Emerald Lake down below. Strewn about, rusting machinery from the lake's early mining years. Remains of a Pelton water wheel, winch and the like. Photo: Aug. 26, 2004 For Additional Trinity Alps Photos see: TRINITY ALPS ---------- ---------- |

| | A Roosevelt Elk stretches --- stretches --- to crop the roses in the backyard of a vacant farm along Highway 101 in far Northern California.

| | I camped here for several days during a recent backpacking trip --- had total solitude except for the deer. They were numerous and friendly. The mosquitoes were also numerous only not so friendly. (g)....(Which is why my sleeping bag is covered by netting --- a bug bivy it's called.) | | Currie Cottage in Old Helena "Currie Cottage" in the Ghost Town of Old Helena. The "Currie Cottage" was built sometime in the late 1800s (?) by Algernon and Rebecca Currie. It's located just a short distance (northwest) from the Schlomer's Feed Stables ... another of the old buidlings. Rebecca, Algernon and their daughter, Mary Ellen (who died at a young age) all are buried nearby. (Just across the North Fork from the old town site..)
