Hull is a busy centre for commerce and pleasure yet built on a friendly, human scale. You are not overpowered by towering office blocks or traffic fumes here. The city centre has spacious pedestrianised shopping streets; distinguished public buildings, many recently refurbished; the Old Town, where Hull began about 800 years ago, offers narrow, cobbled lanes and quays; Holy Trinity Church, founded 700 years ago; 18th and 19th Century architecture; old waterside inns and a wide range of museums to which entrance is entirely free.
Our hometown,Darlington is twinned with Mulheim in Germany and in 1989 a group of cyclists from Mulheim visited Darlington. We spent the week with them showing them the area and the sites. In return they invited us to Mulhein the following year.So we began the preparations.
Stage one.
In August 1990 ten of us set of by cycle on the great journey.Hull was the first leg of our cycle trip to Mulheim in Germany. We left Darlington in the early hours of the morning for our 100 mile ride to Hull where we caught the ferry to Zeebrugge.
Stage two...Zeebrugge.
