| Yes, this is not in Dalian |
Who we are There are four of us crazy Americans that decided, "Hell, I have nothing better to do... I'm going to China!" So, yeah, we packed up our lives, and transplanted ourselves to Dalian, living it up while we drink and party our way through the best experience of our lives. Warning: Due to the SARS scare and subsequent closings in NE China, some of this information may no longer be accurate. I definitely recommend checking some of these places out if you go, but don't be too disappointed if they're not there anymore. Oh, and drop me a line if they aren't. |
2/17/02 I went out to see the last (hopefully) fireworks display of the New Year. It was absolutely amazing and beautiful. It was a wonderful moment and at the time I wished I could be with someone to share it with. Then, after coming back and doing some introspection, I wrote a little letter to myself. I sometimes wonder if deciding to come here while I'm single was the best decision. I'm really not used to it at all, but ultimately, it would have been frustrating and agonizing to be here and missing someone. It's already hard enough to be here. I can now say I've been in China for a good week. I got into Dalian a few days ago, having just spent the majority of Spring Festival in Beijing. Bethany just invited me over for a cigarette. I'm staring out the window now. Kinda bored. Bethany and I shared out first cigarette in China. We had to deal with all the fireworks still. I don't think they'll ever stop. However, as the fireworks were being shot over the university and I could see the lights of the city in the distance, I said to Bethany that I thought something really great was going to happen. I felt it. I don't know what, but I really believe it. |
2/22/02 Well, today was interesting. We've been bogged down with work and crap for the past couple of days. IT's getting really frustrating for me to finish this class and attempt to teach it without a book. I made a little bit of headway today, but I just feel like there is so much to do, and I have no energy to do it. I had a physical this morning. It was no big deal, just some blood work and an EKG. Let's hope I'm not sick with something. I think I've officially decided to go to UC-Boulder today. All I need to do is send in my deposit and I'm set. It's nice to finally have some idea of what I'm doing. Tonight, supposedly, we're going to David's Bar (something like that). It's where a lot of the foreign teachers hang out. There are other foreigners here? No way. Guess there are more crazy people like me in the world than I thought. I think I'm starting to actually go insane here without greasy food and tv that has more than 2 channels. Sometimes I get so frustrated and pissed off that I just cry to myself. It's so HARD what I'm doing. No one said this was going to be a vacation. Still, no one said it would be like the 4th level of HELL. Grr.... For more, read the Diary in Travelogues below!! |
