Herrenchiemsee is one of the most beautiful castles which the "fairytale-king" Ludwig II. let built. It was built on an island (called Herreninsel /Lord's island) inside the lake Chiemsee. There are wonderful french gardens, fountains and other surprises in the area.

If you are think that you are in Versailles, you are not so wrong. It looks very similar to the french palace in many cases and Ludwig wanted to pay a tribute to his great example, the "sun king" Louis XIV.
It is much smaller than the french orginial, but the similarity is amazing.
