Nicaragua is full of undiscovered jungles, isolated beaches and forests! Unfortunately the city Managua was totally destroyed by an earthquake in 1972. I just visited Managua on June 2009, I was impressed how the infrastructure have developed after the fall of the sandinista government. Nicaragua is best known not for its landscape or cultural treasures, but for the 1979 Sandinista revolution and subsequent Contra war( IRAN CONTRA CONTROVERSY). The Sandinistas are back in power, so far not a good future for Nicaragua. Nicaragua was recovering from all the years of isolation suffered under the Socialist Sandinista regime.
It is safe to travel to Nicaragua, if you really want to enjoy beautiful beaches, rain forest, ... Nicaragua is inexpensive, safe and full of friendly people. Poor but honest warm people. |
