In compare to other major cities of the world, Paris is blessed to have its city intact after WWII as well as Prague. Its name comes from the mid-200s BC Parisii tribe of Celtic people who fortified the Île de la Cité. In 52 BC they abandoned the site to the Romans, who extended the town to the left bank of the Seine. It became known as Civitas Parisiorum, or Paris. It was during the revolution and under Napoleon I that the domination of Paris over the rest of the country increased. Starting in 1852 Emperor Napoleon III radically transformed Paris, new parks graced the western and eastern edges of the city, and wide new boulevard afforded access to central Paris. Paris is nowdays a commercial center of luxury articles (such as perfume, jewelry and haute couture). Paris is also the financial center of the country. Many of these companies can be found in a district called: La Défense.
One of the most enjoyable thing to do in Paris is visiting its museums, they are in the list of the finest museums in the world. Every single museum has its own charm; Paris is simply worth visiting...its architecture, the river,...every time I go I find something new... I guess I will keep going back. |
