Roselle, the armpit of Union County, New Jersey

RIP Roselle (1996-2003)

Welcome to the splendor that is Roselle!
There is absolutely no reason why anyone would want to visit Roselle. I lived here from 1996 until January 2004 when we finally escaped. What a relief! Roselle is such a joke that this artist named his comic strip after the town. It used to have one of Thomas Edison's laboratory's but it was knocked down to build a lumber yard. Nothing like preserving history. And to make it worse, Roselle has the distinction of being the first city in the world to have incandescent lightbulbs, courtesy of Thomas Alva Edison. There was a small sign memorializing Mr. Edison's achievements but even that was removed to make room for a new and improved streetlight. Truly sickening.

There is no train station, crappy bus service to New York City and repulsive restaurants, mostly fast food. There is one major park, Warinaco that was designed by Frederic Law Olmsted (the designer of Central Park) but even there it is dirty with a high probability of becoming a crime statistic though there is a pretty Rhodedendrum Garden. After saying all that, why do I live here? Because rents are so unaffordable in New Jersey, our apartment is one of the few places that me and my husband can afford. It's close to our jobs and a 30 minute drive to NYC. Location, location, location.

Pros:"Hop in the car and be in NYC within 30 minutes (on a good traffic day)"
Cons:"Too numerous to mention."
In A Nutshell:"Still has potential but years of mismanagment has reeked havoc."

LOL, this page is kind of black humour isn't it? Can it really be, that the only must-see activity is your cat..? Sorry you have to live there, OK I promise not to visit :-)

At least the name of your town "Roselle" sounds pretty. Sorry it doesn't live up to the sound of it!
