Life in a Small Town

by feline01 - last update: Apr 14, 2004

We recently moved to Laurence Harbor in January 2004. It has been quite a change from our previous apartment which had become a bit too dangerous for our liking. Laurence Harbor is a very small town, population of a little over 6,000 people located about 45 miles from NYC. There is a very, very small downtown area with a nice waterfront walk though if you look to the left during the walk, the view is of oil refineries while if you look to the right, it's a nice view of Raritan Bay which empties out into the Atlantic Ocean. The township is only 2.8 square miles and we haven't explored them all yet. Just been too busy.

I was raised in Laurence Harbor! 137 Harbor Way was my home from 1955 until 1988. I loved to walk the beach after a storm, dig for clams, and fish at Morgan channel. Makes me homesick!

Of all the things I see on the bay, the refineries don't stand out compared to the Empire State Building, sunrises and sets, boaters during the summer, fishermen on the jetties, and the birds. You want refinery views, go to Bayonne, Sewaren and Linden.
