I Saw Warsaw...

by feline01 - last update: Sep 4, 2003

This scene might look like something out of the 1700's but all those buildings are mid 20th century. Warsaw was bombed non-stop during WWII. The town planners were intellegent enough to use old paintings of the Old Town to restore the area to its original glory. Yes, it's a bit Disneyfied but much more attractive than if they designed the neighborhood with 1950's post-war architecture.

Your cover photo and story are the side of Warsaw I enjoy. The rest is too sad. We went behind the iron curtain in 70's and visited again in last couple years. Such a difference!
