Aah, London!

by feline01 - last update: Sep 4, 2003

A foggy London day
I lived in London from 1989-1991 and have visited countless times. It is my favorite city after New York and San Francisco. It is expensive, aren't most cities? But there are ways to work around that with accommodation, transport and food. You don't have to stay at the Ritz, eat at the Savoy and take taxis everywhere. Instead, try one of London't many youth hostels or B&B's, eat at the local caf (cafe) and walk. Londoners are not the friendliest to Americans but there are always exceptions. And lately, it's hard to find people who are friendly to Americans anyway (thanks Dubya).

London is noisy, smelly and dirty-just like home which is probably part of the appeal. It also has great sightseeing and so much to see and do, years wouldn't cover it. I've probably spent a combined total of almost 4 years in London and I still see new things everytime I visit. I'm much more happy just wandering now than doing the tourist curcuit especially since I've already been there-done that. In all my travels, I have never met anyone who did not like London-for good reason. Don't limit yourself to the West-end and Central London, branch out and explore the many neighborhoods (boroughs) that encompass London. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Husband and the Sphinx
You never know what you'll find when walking around London. Pageantry, of course, as well as loads of history. But London has an amazing, vibrant, modern scene as well. Basically, it has a bit of everything to offer. I don't think I can praise it much more than I've done.

I love exploring London pages, and yours is great. It reminds me of all the places I missed on my first visit, such as Little Venice.

Nice pages on London. The restaurants sound interesting. Thanks for the bits about non-touristy places, too ;-) Very helpful info. ~Elaine~
