Rome, the eternal city. This photo could have been taken in 1796, 1896 or in 1996. Obviously, I took it in 1996 (Duh). Rome is so full of ruins (hence the term Roman Ruins) that you need to spend downtime just vegetating in a piazza with a good espresso and of course, gelato. Rome is a city where the locals know how to relax. Yeah, you could spend 12 hours a day visiting museums, gardens and ruins but you would miss an evening supper at the local trattoria followed by a stroll through the piazza and topped of by a cafe correcto (espresso with booze). Every time I visit Rome, I see a few more sights but most importantly, relax. I've been seduced by Rome (and Romans but that's another story!).
See my travelogue for some more pics of Ostia Antica, Roman ruins found outside of Rome (how appropriate!). |

seamandrew Thu Jul 10, 2003 16:42 UTC I surely intend to visit Rome soon! Maybe even this October. Your tips are excellent. Especially love the one about the top of St. Peters. Ha ha ha. I don't think I can get my wife to sit down for very long, but a gelato I can convince her to get! YUM! | thecatsmeow Wed Jun 25, 2003 19:33 UTC Nice page. I like the part about if you die there are lots of priests. | janchan Thu Jun 12, 2003 21:38 UTC Grazie Mille a te... a quality page ! :) | acemj Wed Apr 9, 2003 19:43 UTC Hey good point about dying near the preists! :-) |
