Sleepy Country Town with History Hiraizumi is a place with plenty of sights that you can see in one day. Formerly the stronghold of the northern Fujiwara family, haven for Minamoto Yoshitsune, and also the place where he died. You can see a little that remains of the former grandeur of Hiraizumi, the gold covered temple of Chusonji, the small monument on the hill where Yoshitsune died, caves, temples. It's a peaceful town (okay, very quiet) but after the frenetic pace of the big cities it's a lovely spot to spend a day or so. |
