Vanuatu Transportation

Transportation: We flew frist from Melbourne...

  • 'Mode': TO,AROUND
    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: We flew frist from Melbourne to Sydney with Annsett and then changed to Air Vanuatu. The flight took about 3 hours Sydeny. The trip accross was very smooth and the beer cold.
Coming home we flew direct from Port Villa to Melbourne.
Driving is on the right-hand side of the road. Cars, 4WDs and jeeps are available for hire. Taxis are plentiful and are all metered. Mini buses offer a frequent though not timetabled service, merely flag one down and tell the driver where you want to go,
the fare is 100 vatu a trip. Inter-island travel is mainly by air, inter-island boats taking deck passengers are irregular. Cruise ships regularly call at Port Vila.

    Transportation: Island Bus Network
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Getting around Port Vila and the island of Efate is easy.
There are buses everywhere (they are Hi-Ace type vans with a ?B? in front of the number plate). It costs 100 vatu to anywhere in town and 200 vatu to places like Hideaway Island and Mele Cascades.
You can hail from anywhere with the raise of a hand or an eyebrow and you may get the scenic route, depending on the other travellers? destinations.
Taxis (small cars with a ?T? before the number plate) are also plentiful and reasonably inexpensive. Ask for a price first as some of the meters may be dodgy.
You can also negotiate your own driver to take you around the island, there are organised tours that include lunch and cultural activities or you can hire you own car. There are offices for Budget, Avis, Hertz and Discount Rentals.
There is also a bloke that rents out motor scooter by the hour which is a fun way to see more of the island

Hello Don! thank you for taking me for a virtual tour in Vanuatu. I truly enjoyed it! The photo of little kids wearing grass skirts is so cute! One day I hope I will be able to travel there. Happy birthday from Finland!
