This was a very intresting place to visit, to learn what had happend to the village before and after the eruption of the volcano. Violent and unexpected, the erution of the Tarawera volcano, during the early hours June 10th 1886, was New Zealands gratest natural disaster. For more then four hours, rocks, ash and mud bombarded the village of Te Wairoa. The eruption destroyed the eighth wonder of the world - The Pink and White Terraces, and buried the staging post for travellers to the Terraces. Very moving experince and well worth it.

Hells Gate Thermal Reserve is Rotorua's most active thermal reserve set in 50 acres with a large variety of geothermal features. Walk past steaming fumeroles and pools of boiling mud so violent they can be a bit unnerving. You must heed to warning signs, stay on the path other wise your boiled human. Its that hot. Once you have had your walk around the pools you then must take a mud spa and bath, its wondefull, just don't get any in your eyes and wash your clothes seprately when you get home, other wise everything will smell of sulpher.

Rainbow Springs was a very nice place to wander around in for a hour or so, the small ponds full of trout was great, loved it, the bird life was a bit slim but I think that was due to some renovation work being done, but over all still nice. The kids will love watching the trout swim in there natural surrounds.

The champayne pool is very unique in the world, it has bubbling, hissing water with a beautiful ochre-colored petrified edge. The colors here are just amazing, try and visit on a sunny day to really see the colors.

Ok guys this was a great little farm of sorts, walking around looking at wild trout in the river and no fishing rod in sight, bugger and just around the corner you come across lions, yep real lions and lioness. Never thought i'd find lions here but i enjoyed them any way. But the trout where the best part of it, if your lucky the lady at the desk will give you a bag of pellets to feed the trout with.

This is a must do tour to do when your in Rotoura, do the dinner and show its worth paying the extra. If your lucky you will be selected to be chief as I was. Your job is to be the chif of your tribe of vistors and you must do certain tasks through out the night and you get to go first where ever you go, even to dinner. The show you will see there is very good, they put some work into what they are doing and are very informative. The dinner is cooked under ground in what they call a hungie. All very nicely done
