As an alternative to staying in hotels, another option is to find a private house that does bed and breakfast. There are pros and cons with this. It will probably be a bit cheaper and will certainly be more personal than a hotel. However, the location may not be quite so central. The other thing about B&B is that because you are in someone elses home it is sometimes difficult to fully relax. (No running around the lounge in your pants are taking a shower.) Some London B&Bs are shown on the web site link below.

One of London's more upmarket hotels. If I was looking for a place in London, which I don't have to, Claridges would be way beyond my budget. I guess this is the case for many people. However, I would certainly consider having afternoon tea there for a special occasion. There are a number of hotels that offer this and Claridges is one of the best.

Being a local, accommodation in London is something I don't know too much about. A few years ago I bought my parents theatre tickets and booked them a night's stay in London through 'Uptown Reservations'. This agency deals with B&B places which it describes as "elegant private homes in the very best parts of Central London". They also have self-catering apartments. If you don't fancy staying in a hotel, this agency may have something that suits you.

bimmerpilot Fri Apr 18, 2008 22:16 UTC Thanks for the description and photo of the A. Angelucci coffee shop in London. The next time I get to London, I'll have to stop in to sample the beans. I also sent the photo and text to a good friend named (surprise!) Virginia Angelucci. | Toshioohsako Sun Feb 3, 2008 11:09 UTC Very interesting tip. Have been to London more than 20 times, but have never seen this. I am going to L gain in two weeks and will consider to see it if my business time permits. | mtstranscribe Wed Nov 7, 2007 05:17 UTC Love Boudicea. I see you have been to Colchester. Ever been in the castle ? There is a miniature Boudicea display. For a penny she moves around in her chariot called Boudicea's revolting machine! I wonder if anyone else thinks that is as funny as I do? | volopolo Fri Sep 29, 2006 19:50 UTC Lovely page! and nice pictures. Nikos |
