This was quite an unexpected trip. Not only for me but for the poor Swedish girl that I decided to burden. Let this story be a warning to Swedish girls, any girls in fact, visiting London.
I will explain.
It is 1984. I have been in my new job in London for almost a year. Times are good. I have more than doubled my salary compared to my last job and gone through the magical 5-figure salary mark. Work is fun and I am still living with my parents. I have lots of money in my pocket, no cares in my head and every night after work is party night in London.
While out with the boys one night in Dirty Dicks we run into a large group of Swedish students. I get quite friendly with one of them, Suzanne, who is a bit older than me. I meet her the following weekend in London for some sightseeing. She then returns home. The following week at work I am told that I have vacation to use up otherwise I will lose it. I am not sure what to do so come up with the great idea of visiting my new found friend. I book a ferry crossing and then phone her to announce my imminent arrival. She sounds enthralled. The ferry crossing takes 24 hours from Harwich and I wonder if she will be there to meet me. She is. She lives near Falkenberg and is a single mother and mature student. Her son's father, who she no longer sees, is a Swedish bagpipe player. With the naivety of youth I think it is quite normal to do what I did but looking back it maybe wasn't such a good idea. The week passes fairly smoothly nonetheless but this is not to be the start of a longterm relationship.

Hey Phil..Good Story and even more interesting to me, as I have a Swedish Girlfriend living in Sweden now....but you left us hanging...what happened! You just stop your story without finishing it.
Interesting read.. beautiful opening pic, Phil. I visited Goteborg by Ryanair with a 1p ticket... :-)
A studmuffin like you wouldn't sweat a bagpipe player, would you? Those pictures are awesome, Phil, so surreal. I'm glad you found them.
