South Africa is a place that I visited in my 'pre-VT' days, you know, that time in my life when I didn't take photos and detailed notes of every place I stayed in or ate at.
For that reason, details here are scant. Most of the memories are in my head only.
I had eventually summoned up enough courage to visit South Africa, due mainly to my friends in Jo'burg talking me into it (I'm glad they did). Cape Town was where I started and ended my journey. I found a great guest house on the internet and became good friends with the owner's daughter. She was incredibly helpful before and during my trip. The setting for Cape Town is magnificent with Table Mountain keeping a watchful eye over the city. The city itself has a lot to offer, especially with regard to eating and drinking. My guest house host told me that a couple of London restaurant owners visit each year to see what is new in the culinary world. The nearby wine regions are stunningly beautiful and the produce is highly drinkable. I should also add that compared to European and North American prices the cost of eating and drinking out in South Africa is extremely cheap.
Before I went I had some personal concerns about my safety but had no problems at all.

- Pros:Fantastic scenery, food and wine
- Cons:Caution needs to be exercised to stay safe
- In a nutshell:A truly wonderful city
