Boracay Island Travel Guide: 1,619 reviews and 4,460 photos
Boracay is a near perfect tropical island. All around the island white sandy beaches, with overhanging palm trees to provide shade, meet a turquoise coloured sea. Everyone seems totally relaxed and the laid-back way of life is just how you would imagine it to be. Additionally, there is also some good scuba diving to be had around the island.
- Pros:Perfect beaches, great diving and a relaxed atmosphere
- Cons:Sandflies!
- In a nutshell:The perfect tropical island you've only ever imagined or seen on TV!

Photo in your HP is amazing and I admire your patience in finding one. Sorry to hear about the Nik-Nik in Boracay. Next time you visit Philippines - go to Puerto Princesa in Palawan. For me, it is the best place for beaches.
Thanks for your comments as this will definitely come in handy. I had no idea, although this will ensure we stay closer to the busy beaches. The coconut oil will be a must. If you have any other fly type advice...please email me. Thanks Rob
Sand flies are trouble in Yucatan too... Coconut oil, you say...?
Man.. man.. man... Boracay was an eye opener to me.. long time ago... when Ivan_jimenez did not really exist..
Phil, "I had been taken out to a secluded beach by one of the local girls" :) I wonder, I wonder! Great page on a beautiful place. Warning is great - I get molested by bugs!
Wonderful page! Beautiful photos and very helpful tips! We have beach flies in Delaware, they are mean! The water looks like Jamaica! Warm & inviting! :-)
Apparently toothpaste is good to put on sandfly/mozzies bites - its cool and cheap - looks a bit cruddy though.
Spending time on a secluded beach with a nice local girl is worth a few bites, don't ya think? I thought Romeo here would put up with much worse than that! So then what happened?
Nice Boracay page Phil. I'd love the chance to hang out and dive here... Sand Flies be damned!!
phil ! what a wonderful page. fascinating.
