Due to poor soil quality (dry limestone) Nusa Dua was once a poor part of Bali where no-one wanted to live. Prior to 1983 it was just a small fishing village. Then the big hotels started to build in the area, transforming it into the richest part of Bali. My package deal from Singapore included a stay in the Bali Hilton which is what took me to Nusa Dua. The hotel complexes are extremely well kept with landscaped gardens, ponds and statues. It is not really representative of the rest of the island but very pleasant all the same. There are still some small villages, such as Buala, where it is possible to see a glimpse of real Bali life. |
