Frankfurt am Main Hotel Tips by yooperprof

A great rate through Priceline was how I ended up at the Frankfurt Marriott. I had a good experience here, particularly in terms of service. My flight from the USA landed shortly after 7am at the International Airport, so after clearing customs and taking the train into town, I was at the hotel around 9am - and I was given a room immediately, without any difficulties or hassles. The rooms are comfortable, of a generous size, and are well-furnished with modern amenities.

The lobby of the hotel is somewhat dated - could use a thorough refurbishment. And I wasn't impressed with the coffee shop off the lobby, or the in-hotel bar. Another possible drawback is the location, which is certainly convenient for the Messe (across the street) but it's a little bit off the beaten path for Frankfurt's main cultural attractions.

When I returned to Frankfurt in October 2007, I was able to secure an incredibly good rate ($60 a night) at the new Moevenpick, located in the western end of the city close to the Messeturm. This low rise hotel offers great comfort and a very nice location, only a ten-to-fifteen minute walk from the train station. The rooms are all no-smoking, as well as equipped with efficient wi-fi (which however you have to pay for.)

The staff were a good representation of Swiss hosteltry: cheerful, helpful, egalitarian. There's also a clean, modern bar and restaurant on the premises.

The location - on the edge of the convention district - may be the only thing to hold against it. It's a bit in the middle of a construction zone, and is certainly lifeless at night. You're not "in the middle of things" here!
