The Bay/La Baie: History and Shopping Rideau Centre Review

The Bay/La Baie is the descendent of the historic Hudson Bay Company, which played such an important role in the development of the fur trade in North America, and the exploration and exploitation of the resources of the great interior forestlands of the north. They are now a chain of department stores across Ottawa and Quebec, and their main Ottawa location is across from the Rideau Center at 73 Rideau Street. This is an older traditional style store, and the display areas take advantage of some unusual and unique spaces in a series of connected older buildings. I enjoyed the feel of this being one of those traditional "big city downtown" department stores.

ByWard Market: Fruits, Veggies and Good Menus Byward Market Review

The ByWard Market (named after Ottawa's founder Colonel By) is a wildly popular open-air market just to the east of Sussex Drive, in the heart of the city. It also seems to be home to a very considerable proportion of the most interesting bars and restaurants in the capital.
