"So Bad that they're Good-lands" Badlands National Park by yooperprof

Evening and Morning in the National Park

Evening is a good time to catch the warm glow of the rocks in the "golden time" of the day. Plus the songbirds are flitting, and you have a much better chance of seeing the wildlife moving about as well.

The magic of erosion - water beats rock (over a good deal of time, at least).

The Badlands are set in the midst of oceans of waving grass, a beautiful stand of surviving prairie. In the nineteenth century, settlers attempted to bring this land under the plow, but it proved to be too harsh and inhospitable for the traditional agricultural practices of the white man.

Badlands are not so bad after all, when even the Rattlesnakes keep off the tourist-paths :-)
