Hocking Hills State Park Travel Guide: 57 reviews and 82 photos

Caves, waterfalls and forests are usually not associated with Ohio, yet they are all found in abundance in Hocking Hills State Park, about 30 miles west of Athens and 80 miles southeast of Columbus. Hiking is good here, and it's possible to get that sense of wonder at Nature's Might which is so much associated with the West.

Hocking Hills consists of a number of separate "locations" each with its own attraction, camping or picnic facilities, parking areas, etc. It's possible to drive from one area of the park to the next, and to see all of the sights in a single afternoon. It's better though to hike from one place to the next, even if you don't have time to "get it all in" on a single day.

The topography of Hocking Hills State Park is different from most of this part of the Midwest. There is an interesting geological story behind it, but I can remember it off the top of my head. (I think it has something to do with erosion.)
