My First Trip to Cleveland! (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

The new Key Bank and an old Civil War Monument
Cleveland's got a lot going for it. . . . especially if you compare it to Detroit!

Hey, I know that this is a city that gets a bad press (i.e. "the Mistake on the Lake"), but there's a lot of good energy here, and some institutions that the residents ought to be tremendously proud of. What do I mean? Well:
1) One of the world's best classical music ensembles (and one of the great concert halls of America), the Cleveland Orchestra and Severance Hall;
2) A Remarkably good Art Museum that is just going to get better once its dramatic renovations are complete
3) An excellent health care center and hospital complex centered around the Cleveland Clinic
4) Some great new Sports facilities downtown
5) A river that hasn't caught on fire for at least 20 years and which is now the center of some significant urban redevelopment
6) The Rock and Roll hall of fame, which even if it doesn't really belong here is at least housed in a classic I.M. Pei museum
Pei on the Lake
I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the idea of Cleveland as the birthplace of rock and roll. Anyway. . .
Designed by sculptor Marshall Fredericks, the "Fountain of Eternal Life" is a striking piece of public art in Cleveland's downtown. It commemorates those who have died in war, and is said to represent the Spirit of Mankind Arising From the Flames of Warfare and Ascending to the Heights, All in Capital Letters.
AKA the War Memorial
